Shillong (Meghalaya), June 15 : The sensitization meeting of PMTBMBA to potential donors was organised by The Office of The District Tuberculosis Officer, Ri- Bhoi District, Meghalaya was held at RNB Carbide & Ferro Alloy Ltd today, the 15 th June 2023.
Dr. E. Kalwing, District TB officer, Ri Bhoi District highlighted the significance of Tuberculosis, its impact at the society. She further explained on the signs and symptoms of Tuberculosis which includes coughing with or without blood for more than 2 weeks, fever, weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue and encouraged the community members not to be afraid but to come forward if they have such symptoms for screening oneself. Dr. Kalwing in her note said that TB is a preventable and curable disease with right treatment available free of cost in all Government health facilities.
In line with the state and country goals of eliminating TB by 2025, Dr. W. Chyne, Medical Officer, Umsning Tuberculosis Unit talks about the new initiative of the government )and talks about the objectives and initiatives of the government in calling potential donors to be a Nikshay Mitra in providing additional patient support through distribution of food baskets to improve the treatment outcome of TB patients and to uplift the nutritional requirements during the course of treatment.
S. Nongkynrih, Programme Manager, DIC Ri Bhoi District talks about how Covid affects the community and how the people fought and take care of themselves, same for Tuberculosis through the initiative of PMTBMBA we can come forward in helping TB community and urge all CSR companies to show support to take care of every patient and requested the companies and industries from every unit to adopt the patients and helps the Health Department in joining hands together to fight against TB.
Risbunlang Marbaniang, Programme Coordinator, Jhpiego explained the important steps for registering as Donors and anyone who wishes to extend their support to consented TB patients can visit the web portal(https://reports.nikshay.in/FormIO/DonorRegistration) and register themselves as Mitras, or they can contact their nearest PHC/CHC or District Tuberculosis Officer for assistance with registration.
The programme was attended by Dr. E.Kalwing, District TB Office, Ri Bhoi District, Dr. W. Chyne, MOTC Umsning TU, Dr. M. Diengdoh, Block Medical Officer, Umsning Block, R. Marbaning, DPC Jhpiego, Smti. N. Tracy Kharkamni, State Coordinator ACSM, State TB Office, F. J. Diengdoh, District programme Coordinator, students of St. Joseph University, Bangalore, Managers and representatives from various factories and industries from the Umiam area.
