Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 25: Senior BJP leader from Garo Hills Rikman Momin was appointed as the new president of the Meghalaya unit of BJP.
This was informed by BJP national general secretary & headquarters in-charge Arun Singh today. “BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Rikman Momin as president of Meghalaya BJP.
Singh said in the letter of organizational appointment. Momin replaces the present BJP state president Ernest Mawrie six months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Momin unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from the Tura parliamentary constituency.
Talking to South Asia Views, the new BJP State president said that it was just this morning that he was intimated about his new appointment.
The new state president said that he would take up the Centre on issues relating to inner line permits (ILP) and the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
He also said that he was not keen to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls added that the party would surely set up candidates for the two seats – Shillong and Tura – but the ultimate decision wou;d be taken by the the central leadership.
BJP national president JP Nadda also appointed new presidents for the party’s unit in Puducherry and Nagaland.
An official order on the new appointees by the BJP’s national chief was issued by the party’s national general secretary and headquarters in-charge, Arun Singh.
Benjamin Yepthomi has been appointed the party’s president in Nagaland while S Selvaganabathy was appointed the party’s president in Puducherry.
Yepthomi previously held the position of vice president within the state BJP and served as the state president of BJYM Nagaland for two consecutive terms.
He was in charge of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand rally at Dimapur ahead of the Nagaland assembly elections.
He was instrumental behind the successful ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ of the party, which won him praise from the party’s leadership.
