Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 13: The Christian Brothers community mourns the loss of Br. Eric Steve D’Souza, a devoted educator, actor, and mentor, who passed away earlier today in Regina Mundi, Goa.
After joining Christian Brothers congregation, he dedicated his life to education and the arts. He was known for his exceptional teaching skills, passion for drama, and mentorship.
In the 1980s, Br. Eric played a pivotal role in shaping the acting career of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. As a young actor, Khan attended St. Columba’s School, Delhi, where Br. Eric taught drama and theatre during his tenure in New Delhi . Under Br. Eric’s guidance, Khan honed his acting skills, which eventually led him to become one of India’s most iconic actors.
Br. D’Souza served as a teacher and drama instructor at St. Edmund’s School, Shillong for decades. During his tenure, he established the school’s drama club, directed numerous plays and musicals, mentored students and Inspired generations of students to pursue their passions.
“Br. Eric was more than a teacher; he was a mentor, a guide, and a father figure to me,” said Shah Rukh Khan, paying tribute to his former teacher.
Br. Solomon Morris, Principal of St. Edmund’s School, added, “Br. Eric’s passing leaves a void in our hearts. We will deeply miss his wisdom, compassion, and love for the arts.”
Br. Eric’s D’Souza mortal remains will be brought to Shillong on Tuesday, with the funeral likely to be held on Wednesday.
