Tura(Meghalaya),June 4: The Non Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) of the GHADC have decided to call of their agitation after a meeting this morning between themselves, the Council authorities and NGOs of the Garo Hills region after assurances were provided by the administration to work on their demands.
The meeting today was attended by the CEM, Deputy CEM, senior EC members, NGEA leaders as well as NGO leaders from Garo Hills.
The NGEA has been agitating for their pending salaries of 35 months leading to the GHADC offices being closed for work. Office work in the GHADC has been affected due to the agitation since at least the past 5 months.
The development comes in the wake of the state government releasing money to the beleaguered GHADC to pay at least 5 months’ salaries in the 4th pay commission scale.
A meeting between the leaders of the NGEA, the NPP led GHADC EC and NGOs from Garo Hills took place this morning where the stalemate was resolved by the parties involved.
“We have decided to call off the agitation after assurances made by the authorities. We hope they will keep their promises and ensure we don’t have to agitate further on the issue,” said joint secretary, Flaming Marak.
According to sources, the employees would get their 5 months’ salary dues in the old scale with the revised scale being paid based on the fund situation of the GHADC.
The revision is expected to be done in the next 2-3 months. Further on the payment of salaries is expected to be regular to employees. A written assurance on the matter is expected to be given by the GHAD authorities.
While the NGEA was reluctant on the matter, a prolonged discussion on the issue between all the parties involved managed to bring the situation out of the prolonged stalemate. The NGEA later agreed on the matter and called off their agitation.
While the information was confirmed by the NGEA leaders, Council authorities including the CEM were unavailable for comment on the issue.
