Tura,(Meghalaya),June 1: After a day of torrential rains on Monday , that swept the entire Garo Hills and parts of Assam, the border town of Tikrikilla as well as areas adjoining it came under flood waters even as many scrambled to find shelter from the rising waters.
While there was no loss of life or severe damage to houses, many roads, mainly rural ones suffered damage.
Till the afternoon yesterday, the entire town was almost underwater though according to locals, the situation is a yearly phenomenon, occurring mainly due to flash flooding.
As per official reports, the brunt of the damage was taken by road and check dam projects under MGNREGS.
“Water is receding though for now it is still above the danger mark. No relief provisions have been made as people have all returned to their homes and are doing fine,” said DC Ram Singh on the situation.
Worryingly there are more rains forecast in the coming days with the situation being monitored very closely by the authorities.
