Shillong(Meghalaya), Feb 22: Police recovered 10.174 kgs of amphetamine also known as Yaba tablets from a tourist taxi bound for Shillong .
Acting on a tip of about the movement of these drugs in a tourist taxi (AS 01 LC 4807) which is travelling from Guwahati to Shillong, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and police personnel from Mawlai police station intercepted the vehicle at Mawïongrim viewpoint.
“The vehicle was successfully intercepted at the viewpoint and it was occupied by five persons and the driver. On following the procedures of NDPS Act and searching the vehicle and personal belongings of the occupants, 10.174 kg of suspected Amphetamine were found to be inside the travel trolley of Jiten Wairokpam Singh,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Claudia Lyngwa informed .
She also said that Jiten’s examination revealed that he was in conspiracy of trafficking the contraband drugs along with four other occupants of the vehicle.
Jiten’s accomplices have been identified as Akoijam Subhachandra Singh, Samphangso Shinglai, Nganba Wairokpham Chenglei and Nengneichong Lhanglal who are from the Thoubal and Ukhrul districts of Manipur.
All five accused have been arrested and a case has been registered vide Mawlai police station Case No. 14(02)2020 U/S 29/21 (c) NDPS Act.
