Imphal (Manipur), April 01: Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has attributed the ongoing conflict in the state to multiple challenges, including the drug menace, illegal immigration, and destruction of forests.
In a recent post on X, Singh emphasized that the present crisis is not inherently political but rather stems from a complex interplay of these factors, as well as the systematic pursuit of power by select groups.
Singh also expressed concerns about attempts to interfere in Manipur’s internal affairs, drawing parallels with the late Shri P.A. Sangma’s proposal to divide the Northeast into smaller states along ethnic lines. He deemed this idea “dangerous” and a threat to national unity.
Regarding the Inner Line Permit (ILP) implementation, Singh informed Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma about the progress made, highlighting that the violence was not spontaneous, but rather instigated by those who feel threatened and insecure.
