Shillong (Meghalaya), May 19: Langsning FC made it 10 wins from 10 on Monday, dismantling Nangkiew Irat SC 6-1 at the SSA Stadium to stay the only unbeaten side in the 5th Meghalaya State League.
Samuel Phawa struck twice in three minutes in the 18th and 21st, before Morningstar Khongkiang in the 58th and a Nelson Rymbai hat-trick in the 69th, 73rd and 87th buried Nangkiew Irat. Ronaldkydon L Nonglait’s 27th-minute free-kick was all Nangkiew could muster.
The opener came off a slick counter. Kyrmenskhem Mukhim fed Nelson, who unselfishly set up Samuel for the tap-in. Samuel’s second, a low left-footer, took him to 13 goals this season. Nelson’s treble pushed his league-leading tally to 21, and he has now scored in every Langsning game.
In the other Group B tie, Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC beat Maram FC 4-2. Hesmiki Rymbai in the 28th, Monush Lapang in the 31st, Skilful Tariang in the 61st and Niphonghi Sumer in the 78th scored for Shkenshynriah. Santosh Teron pulled one back with a long ranger in the 50th and Jakchim K Marak tapped in late in the 88th for Maram.
Maram had an early goal ruled out for offside. Hesmiki’s strike slipped past Laspoll Ch Marak’s glove, and Monush converted at the second attempt after his first hit the post. Shkenshynriah added two more before Jakchim’s consolation from Dipen Daimary’s pass.
Langsning lead Group B with a perfect 9 points. Shkenshynriah sit second on 6, Nangkiew Irat have 3, and Maram are yet to open their account.
Group A quarterfinal second legs kick off Tuesday: Mawlai SC take on Rangdajied United FC at 2pm, followed by Nongkseh SSCC vs Shillong Lajong at 6pm. Mawlai won 2-1 and Nongkseh 2-0 in Sunday’s first legs.
