Shillong ( Meghalaya), Aug 18 : TMC Leader and former CM, Dr. Mukul Sangma while addressing a press conference here today said that he has urged PM Modi in a letter that the whole process of implementation of smart meters in the state needs to be independently investigated either through SIT or CBI
Addressing media , TMC Legislature Party Leader Dr. Mukul said that the alleged irregularities that have cropped up in the power sector, particularly under the MeECL which concerns installation of the Smart Meters by the MeECL.
He said that since PM Modi has promised all of us to ensure zero tolerance against corruption, he has decided to write a letter urging him to implement an investigation on the alleged corruption in the power sector in Meghalaya under the MDA Government.
“The price which was indicated in the LoA comes to 11,000+ per meter, including the installation and the GST. What has drawn our attention to come to the decision for an enquiry is the market price of the models that have been installed. This is the same meter that then Power Minister James K Sangma has posted on his social media handle. The open market price is available on the manufacturer’s website. There is a huge difference between the price that the government indicated in its LoA and the open market price.”, Dr. Sangma stated .
“The report made by the Enquiry Committee has been submitted to the state government. It has not been made available to the public. If the MDA Government’s intent was honest, they would have given specific instructions regarding the terms of reference in the enquiry.”he added .
Dr . Mukul stated that whole exercise gives enough reason to believe that there was an intention to cause loss to the state but it is still unknown as how many people were involved in this conspiracy to cause damage to the state.
Dr. Sangma said It is not just the opposition, but the parties in the ruling dispensation including theUDP and the BJP are trying to draw the attention of the government to an enquiry.
