Shillong ( Meghalaya), Feb 22 : The National People’s Party (NPP) announced its decision to field former Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo from Rainkor in the 2023 Assembly elections after he rejoined the party here today .
Others who joined the NPP here today were KHADC MDC from Umsning Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong, former KHADC CEM from Langrin, Manstudy Nongrem, former JHADC CEM Hambertus Nongtdu, former MDC Thomas Nongtdu, former UDP Ri Bhoi vice president Reynold Kharkamni, Defender Pakem and Lawrence Nongrum among others.
They joined the party during a meeting held in the presence of its national president and chief minister Conrad K Sangma, state president and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. WR Kharlukhi, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong, cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar .
Former Speaker , Danggo, who had contested and won from Ranikor on a Congress ticket in 2018 resigned as MLA after three months to contest from the NPP after the government granted civil sub division status to Ranikor as demanded by him. However, in the by poll, he was defeated by the UDPs Pius Marwein.
After his defeat he resigned from the NPP and was away from active politics .
In todays meeting , the party also announced that KHADC MDC from Umsning Ms. Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong who also joined the NPP t would be the partys candidate from Nongpoh in the 2023 Assemby polls .
In a social media post , Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said , ”Happy to welcome Hon’ble MDC, Smti. Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong, former Speaker & MLA, Sh M M Danggo, Ex-CEM of KHADC, Sh. Manstudy Nongrem & other members to the NPP family.
The growing faith in NPP is a result of NPP’s ability to deliver & we will continue to work for Meghalaya!”
