Williamnagar(Meghalaya), April 22: Balmanduri FC erased their opening-day disappointment in style Tuesday, hammering Attong Matgrik FC 7-1 in Group G of the 5th Meghalaya State League at Williamnagar.
It was the lone fixture of the day as other groups enter a two-day break, with action set to resume Friday. Group G’s five-team format allows for the busier schedule.
After losing on April 18, North Garo Hills’ Balmanduri hit back emphatically. Goodnear Marak broke the deadlock in the 21st minute before Jurisbirth Marak made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark. Ganapati Rabha added a third in the 41st and captain Chichang M Momin struck on the stroke of halftime to put the game out of reach at 4-0.
The second half followed the same script. Substitutes Nilaybhumi Rabha and Dipunjay Rabha scored in the 70th and 75th minutes, and Jurisbirth completed his brace in the 81st to take the tally to seven. Attong Matgrik of South Garo Hills finally got on the scoresheet through Sunil M Marak in the 85th minute — their first goal this season after back-to-back defeats.
Attong Matgrik stay bottom of Group G with three losses and a single goal. Balmanduri, meanwhile, bounce back to keep their campaign alive.
Group G hosts the only match Wednesday as well, with A’chik SCO Rongjeng taking on Janepih YSCA at 3pm in Williamnagar.
