Shillong (Meghalaya) , Nov 17: Persistent rain forced play on the first day of the Meghalaya-Mizoram match in the Cooch Behar Trophy, a youth first-class tournament for U-19 men, to be washed out at the MCA Ground, Polo, here today.
This is the first BCCI domestic competition to be held in the state capital in the 2023-24 season.
However, though the rain was not heavy, there was no let-up to allow the outfield to dry out and the covers remained on throughout until the umpires took the inevitable decision around 2pm to abandon play for the day.
With three days still available, there is every chance of getting a result if the weather improves. Some rain is predicted for Saturday but conditions are expected to be better. Play will begin not before 8:30am.
