New Delhi , March 20 : The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed Indian airlines to avoid flying over nine West Asian countries, including Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, UAE, and Bahrain, due to escalating tensions in the region. Flights over Oman and Saudi Arabia are permitted, but with restrictions – airlines must not operate below 32,000 feet in designated areas.
This advisory comes after recent military strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian targets, which have created a high-risk environment for civil aviation. The DGCA has asked airlines to conduct thorough safety risk assessments and develop robust contingency plans to handle potential disruptions.
The restrictions are effective immediately and will remain in force until March 28, unless reviewed earlier. Airlines are also advised to keep their flight crews updated with the latest NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) and airspace restrictions.
