Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 5: Mawlynrei ended their SSA Champions Cup 2025 campaign on a high note with a convincing 2-0 victory over Laitkyrhong at the SSA Stadium. Alem Khongwir’s solo effort in the 33rd minute set the tone for Mawlynrei’s dominance, while Kerryland Mawlong’s late strike in the 83rd minute sealed the win.
The match was a dead-rubber for both teams, with Shillong Lajong and Nongkseh already securing their spots in the semifinals. Laitkyrhong, however, gave it their all, creating several chances through Learninstar Warlarpih and Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw, but Mawlynrei’s defense held strong.
Laitkyrhong finished third in Group B, followed by Mawkriah West and Mawlynrei, based on goal difference. However, Mawkriah West’s fate could change tomorrow when they face Nongkseh. A win for Mawkriah West would see them leapfrog into third place.
The real excitement, though, lies in Group A, where Langsning takes on Mawkasiang at 4:30 pm. Langsning need a point to qualify for the semifinals, while Mawkasiang require a win to make it to the knockouts. Will the underdogs cause an upset, or will Langsning’s experience prevail?
