Agartala (Tripura) , Dec 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the 72nd Plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Agartala, Tripura, highlighting the Modi government’s efforts to accelerate development in the Northeast. Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the Northeast into focus with his vision and sensitivity and assured that the Modi government stands with the northeastern states to resolve their problems.
The NEC plays a crucial role in identifying needs and challenges and providing effective solutions to determine the direction of development. The Modi government aims to bring the Northeast at par with the rest of India, implementing the mantra of “Act East, Act Fast, and Act First.”
Shah emphasized the need to transform the police force in the Northeast, changing their approach, training, and focus. He highlighted the significant reduction in violent incidents (71%) and civilian deaths (86%) over the last 10 years, with 10,574 insurgents surrendering.
The government has also made efforts to establish peace in the Northeast through various peace agreements. Shah urged the northeastern states to focus on industrial development, becoming self-reliant in milk, vegetables, eggs, fish, and meat production, and promoting organic farming.
