Tura(Meghalaya), July 12 : BJP MDC from Tura, Bernard Marak has sought a clarification from the GHADC on the high prices being imposed from those applying for professional certificates for contract work and traders applying for TNT licenses.
The clarification has been sought from the executive member of taxation, Grahambell Sangma.
“The former Executive Committee has passed the new rates but it was not approved by the Governor. It was in a state of ordinance which was valid for only 6 months. However, the rates of business licenses,” said Bernard.
The BJP MDC stated that for professional certificates for contracts, the amount was doubled while in some cases it was triple the earlier rates.
“The unapproved rates are being imposed on the business community without any constitutional sanction. We have asked all traders to wait for the clarification of the concerned Executive Member before paying taxes which are not approved by the Governor of Meghalaya and illegally imposed,” he contested.
