Guwahati ( Assam) , May 21 : Newly elected legislature Akhil Gogoi was taken away from Guwahati Medical College this morning to oath at the Assam Assembly . Akhil Gogoi made an explosive allegation while going to the oath-taking. Cameras captured Akhil being dragged to the assembly .
The scene of pulling Akhil into the assembly was captured on camera.
Later he took the oath of office as a legislator of Sibsagar Legislative Assembly .
Akhil Gogoi is the second person in India after George Fernandes (who won the 1977 Lok Sabha polls from behind bars) to win an election while being under arrest. There have been few instances from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh where candidates (especially gangsters) have won polls while in jail.
Akhil Gogoi had defeated BJP’s Surabhi Rajkonwari by over 11,000 votes in Sibsagar seat in the recently held Assam Assembly polls and also became the first Assamese to win an election from behind the bars.
