Kokrajhar (Assam), Jan 10: Eminent educationist, Gandhian Prof Ramesh Chandra Bharadwaj was conferred the 17th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2020 today at a function held at ITA Machkowa in Guwahati.
The award has been conferred by Upendra Nath Brahma Trust(UNBT) and All Bodo Students Union(ABSU).
The award comprised of a memento, a citation and a cheque of 1,00,000.
The award is conferred every year, which is considered as the highest literary award presented by Bodo community in memory of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU).
While accepting the award Prof Bharadwaj expressed his happiness and said that this award has again encouraged him to dedicate more services in his life. He also recalled the contribution and dedication of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma who had selflessly rendered services wholeheartedly for the cause of the Bodos and other backward communities.
He lauded the All Bodo Students Union for its efforts towards the welfare of student community and social upliftment in the state especially among the Bodo community.
“ABSU is the mother organization of the Bodo community who are dedicating their services for the welfare of the society. We must take bold step for upliftment of society in a positive way”, Bharadwaj said.
He stressed on the good governance in BTR(Bodoland Territorial Region) under the young leadership of Pramod Boro and said that that citizens of the council region will now get healthy development and integration.
” Socio-economic development among the society is the need of the hour while maintaining peace and tranquility”, he said.
He assured of establishing the Gandhi Ashram in Bodoland region popularize the ideology and philosophy of Mahandas Karamchand Gandhi for a peaceful and integrated environment.
He has urged upon the BTR authorities to adopt policies to empower young generation in order to explore knowledge and information across the region.
Senior Journalist , Wasbir Hussian who was the chief guest said that Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was a visionary leader of the down trodden community in the northeastern region.
“Bodofa Brahma had dedicated his whole life for the cause of the Bodo society as well as the other down trodden communities by following the Gandhian ideals and philosophy in his life.
“We must keep alive of philosophy and theology of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to create a healthy society,”, Hussain said.
Chairman of UNB Trust, Dr. Subung Basumatary told that the award was first started in the year 2004 and was conferred to noted writer and former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Jogendra Kumar Basumatary .The award is conferred to persons who have immensely dedicated their life for human welfare and upliftment of the society.
“The trust is very happy to honour Prof Bharadwaj who contributed immensely towards literary upliftment and social integrity in the state and the country “,Dr Basumatary said.
Among others, BTR CEM Pramod Boro, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro,ABSU president Dipen Boro, ex- Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma, Former MP Biswajit Daimary were prominent attendees and the programme was chaired by State information commissioner Samudra Gupta Kashyap.
