Guwahati ( Assam), Jan 18 : The state on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 , saw a huge surge in Covid -19 cases in the state in midst of the third wave .
A total of 8, 072 cases were recorded in the state in the past 24 hours taking the positivity rate at 12.62 % .
The new cases were recorded from a total of 63, 944 tests done .
Capital Guwahati and its suburbs in Kamrup (Metro) recorded 1996 cases .
A total of 16 patients succumbed tp their infections in the last 24 hours .
