Commonwealth Games 2018: Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu wins 2nd gold for India

Gold Coast ( Australia), Apr 06 : Indian weightlifter Sanjita Chanu won gold in the women's 53 kg category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Friday.
The Manipuri lifter lifted a total of 192 kg which included a CWG record of 84 kg in the snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk.
Loa Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea was a distant second with 182 kg while New Zealand's Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet took bronze with 181 kg.

Gold Coast (Australia) , Apr 5 : Star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the first gold for India at the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games with a power-packed performance in the women's 48 kilogram category here on Thursday.
The Manipuri powerhouse left the competition far behind by setting Games and Commonwealth records in the snatch, clean and jerk as well as the total.
She registered 86 kg in the snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 196 kg.

Acharya condoles demise of R K Dorendro Singh

Dimapur(Nagaland), April 03 : Governor PB Acharya has expressed grief at the demise of R K Dorendro Singh, a veteran politician and former Chief Minister of Manipur, on March 30.
Governor Acharya in his condolence message, described Late Singh as a personal friend and a good human being and stated that his contributions for the welfare of the people of Manipur in particular and the country in general, will be remembered forever.

Manipur: Senapati declared first Open Defecation Free district in NE

Imphal(Manipur), Mar 29: Manipur’s Senapati district bordering Nagaland has been declared the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) district of the north-eastern state.
The Public Health Engineering department (PHED) minister Losii Dikho declared this during a function held at Senapati district headquarters, 60 km north of the state capital on March 27 an official sources said on March 28.

Manipur records highest number of HIV/AIDS in India

Kohima (Nagaland ) , Mar 24: With a prevalence rate of 0.76% among adults, third highest in the country, Nagaland has 22,878 'People living with HIV' (PLHIV) and AIDS cases, an official of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) has said.
A study, conducted between early 1999 and 2018, has found that the Manipur has the highest HIV prevalence rate among adults in the country at 1.06%, followed by Mizoram at 0.79%, NSACS Deputy Director Vezokholu Theyo said yesterday at a sensitization programme for mediapersons.

Strike in Manipur government offices enters Day 3

Imphal (Manipur), Mar 24 : Despite a warning by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to employees, the strike in government offices across Manipur continued for the third day on Saturday, paralysing work.
Singh had, on Friday night, asked employees to return to work by Monday, "failing which the government has to find other people to discharge their work".

New Delhi , Feb, 27:  Nine prominent personalities, including an internationally acclaimed weightlifter, an author of adventure novels and a Gandhian, from the northeast were conferred the Padma Shri on the Republic Day.
Editor of Guwahati-based Assam Tribune, the most circulated English daily of the region, Prafulla Govinda Baruah, and educationist A Zakia from Mizoram were among the nine distinguished citizens who were honoured with the prestigious civilian award.

Manipur : Smuggled Gold bars worth Rs 94 lakh seized

Imphal (Manipur) : The  Assam Rifles stationed along  Imphal-Moreh section of Trans-Asia Highway seized 3.33 kg smuggled gold bars  worthRs 94 lakh seized  in  two separate incidents. 
According of official sources,  the troops posted in  Khudengthabi along NH-102 (Trans-Asia Highway no. 1) detected ten  gold biscuits weighting 1.666 kg worth around  Rs 47 lakh in the international  market as part of their routine check .
The gold biscuits were  hidden around “ankle knee brace” on both hands of the driver .

Manipur : One NSCN IM cadre injured in encounter, another arrested

Imphal(Manipur): One suspected cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah faction (NSCN-IM) was injured in an encounter with Assam Rifles troops in Noney district, police said today.
The encounter took place yesterday evening in between Sibilong and Sinam Village of Noney district, said a senior police officer.
One militant has been apprehended by the troops after the encounter.
