Kokrajhar (Assam),Jan 18: Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) executive member for Forest Ranjit Basumatary said that the BTC administration is taking all necessary steps for safe release of 25 former NDFB cadres lodged at various jails in neighboring Bhutan .
Speaking the reporters at a press conference held at Bodoland Guest House in here on Monday Basumatary said that BTC administration is communicating with Union Home ministry for the release of 25 former NDFB leaders who are still lodged at various jails In Bhutan for past many years.
He also informed that several NDFB cadres were released from Myanmar jails after taking up up the issue with the central government.
On NDFB rehabilitation process , he said that on Jan 20 several cadres and members of the NDFB will be given rehabilitation packages as per the spirit of BTR accord implementation.
“Government has been taking effective steps to extend rehabilitation packages to all the former cadres “, Basumatary said.
He said that the mining ,quarry and crusher will be reopened for the greater interest of peoples welfare from Tuesday.
He has alleged that illegal mining and crushers are operating illegally across the BTC districts.
He said that forest department is keeping a check against the illegal encroachments in the forest areas.
He added that illegal encroachments are going on in several deep jungle areas in the districts.
He informed that recently illegal encroachers tried to occupy the forest lands forcefully that created chaos and resentment .
The incident took place on Jan 13 last where of hundreds illegal encroachers tried to encroach along the Haltugaon forest division area with support of some persons .
Basumatary said that illegal timber smuggling is still going on and necessary steps would be initiated to stop the illegal timber smuggling in all the districts.
