Kokrajhar (Assam),Feb 23: “Create separate Kamatapur within Indian constitution ahead of 2021 Assembly elections in the state or face strong agitation”,the All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union(AKRSU) warned the government.
A mass gathering was held today at Dimalgaon playground here to pressurise the government for early creation of separate Kamatapur state and granting of Scheduled Tribe(ST) to the Koch Rajbongshi community in the state under Indian constitution.
Thousands of activists and citizens from Koch Rajbongshi community with placards participated in the rally and shouted slogans demanding ST status and Kamatapur state which was organised by AKRSU and supported by different organizations including Koch Rajbongshi Mahila Samiti,ex KLO coordination committee,Koch Rajbongshi Cultural Society,Koch Rajbongshi Chilarai Sena.
The AKRSU flayed the BJP led state and central government for not taking proper initiatives to accord ST status and creation of Kamatapur state for the Koch Rajbongshi community.
AKRSU accused BJP party which had promised to solve its pending issues of ST status and creation of Kamatapur state during their tenure.
“Even though,BJP party promised during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and 2016 assembly elections in Assam,yet no any measures have been taking for solution of their demands”, AKRSU president Karmeswar Roy said.
AKRSU advisers Hiteswar Barman and Atul Roy slammed the government for tactically delaying the issues raised by the Koch Rajbongshi issues and not going ahead with political dialogue.
They strongly criticised the BJP led government for their political insincerity towards granting of ST status and creation of Kamatapur state .They warned to intensify mass agitations in support of creating Kamatapur state and granting of ST status in the coming days.
“Only agitation is the way out to put pressure on the government for granting ST status and creation of Kamatapur state .We have been demanding ST status and Kamatapur state for overall upliftment of the Koch Rajbongshi community in the state”, said Barman.
General secretary of the AKRSU Jibesh Roy warned the government that it will be responsible for whatever untoward incident which occurs during the mass agitation in near future.
He has urged upon the government to take bold initiatives to solve the Koch Rajbongshi communities demands for ensuing peace and tranquility in the state.
