Kokrajhar(Assam), Aug 2: After initiating strict search operation, Kokrajhar police today apprehended Sukat Murmu alias Sukla after five days, who fled the RNB civil hospital Kokrajhar on 29th July who was a COVID-19 positive rape convict.
The person was arrested this morning at Lungsung area in Kokrajhar district and brought to the Kokrajhar police station.
After reaching Kokrajar, he was taken to RNB civil hospital for Swab test where he was found negative and re -sent to the district jail .
SP Kokrajhar Rakesh Roushan while confirming that the escaped rape convict has been apprehended informed that the convict was in Kokrajhar District Jail since 15.05.2020 in Assam.
According to him on the intervening night of 28.7.2020 and 29.7.2020 he fled from the jail by breaking the window of the verandah. An alert was sounded and efforts were on to nab him.
This morning he was apprehended at Lungsung area in Kokrajhar district.
He has again been sent to the district jail and necessary legal steps have been initiated against him.
