Guwahati(Assam), May 7 : The surge in Covid -19 cases in the state continues with 5226 new cases reported in the state in the past 24 hours out which 1551 cases were reported from capital Guwahati and its suburbs .

A total of 47 critically ill Covid -19 patients succumbed to their infections taking the death toll up to 1578.
According to state Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma , the overall positivity percentage after conducting 68318 tests today was 8.24 % and the recovery rate was 86.91%.
The Minister informed that the Centre has sent 80 oxygen concentrators from Invacare, for use at this hour of critical health crisis .
He also informed that at a meeting with PWD & GMCH it’s been decided that PWD will immediately start work on construction of 256 and 24 new ICU beds at GMCH and Kalapahar Covid Hospitals, respectively.
