Khanapara (Meghalaya), May 17 : The significance of yoga in imparting the mental functioning of an individual is known to all. It is said that students who practice yoga have better control over their emotions and so they can take meaningful decisions in life.
With the objective to promote yoga among school children, the Yoga Centre of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) organised an outreach programme at Little Star Senior Secondary School in Baridua here today which was participated by more than 40 school children.
With the theme “Yoga Session for Active Classroom”, the outreach programme was organised by PQH School of Education in collaboration with USTM Yoga Centre. It was funded by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Department of Higher Education, Government of India.
The programme was conducted by Priyanka Baishya, Yoga Mentor and Padma Kumari, Yoga Instructor from USTM.
Meena Sharma, the Principal of Little Star School said that the students were very enthusiastic to practice yoga “So, we have decided to send our students to USTM once a week to learn yoga”, she said.
Yoga mentor Priyanka Baishya was of the opinion that yoga and meditation help students to focus on their studies. “Today I have taught the children 12 Asanas as part of Surya Namaskar”, she added.
