Dadenggre(Meghalaya),Sept 2: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh and the Civil SDO, Dadenggre Sub-Division, Jagdish Chelani interacted with the Producers’ Groups and Bakdil NGO members in a program organized by FOCUS under Farmers’ Collectivization for Up-scaling Production and Marketing System at A.simgre village in Dadenggre C&RD Block on Wednesday where the former Lok Sabha Speaker and Tura MP, Late PA Sangma was also remembered on his 74th. birthday.
During the program, Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, said that the FOCUS program will uplift the livelihood of the rural people by providing the necessary support to the producers at the grass-root level. Saying that education is the stepping stone in uplifting one’s economic life, he urged the youth of the area give priority to education.
Stressing on the need to minimizing of import of pigs, cows, etc. from the neighboring states, he urged the people of the area to take up the live-stock farming in large scale and also suggested the pilot project mission in the field.
The SDO (C) of Dadenggre Sub-Division, Jagdish Chelani, in his speech, highlighted the importance of support fund being given to the producers’ group. Saying that 70% to 80% of the rural households basically depend on agriculture, he also stressed on the need to go for multi-cropping system to generate more income and uplift the economy of the area.
On the day, the secretaries of various IVCS highlighted the problems of their respective areas which included the lack of marketing facilities, in-availability of reasonable prices for the products, lack of processing facilities and value addition, etc. and urge the concerned departments to initiate action to bring sustainable solution to the problems being faced by them.
Earlier during the programme , the DPM, MBDA, delivered the welcome and key-note address and the others who spoke on the occasion included the Veterinary Officer of Dadenggre Block, Walter N Sangma and Manseng Sangma of Songadinggre IVCS and Chenggal Dare IVCS respectively.
During the program, the Deputy Commissioner also handed over the cheques of seed money to the producers’ groups.
