Shillong ( Meghalaya), Dec 18 : The state today observed the 81st Death Anniversary great Khasi poet, U Soso Tham here .
Meghalaya Minister of Arts and Culture Sanbor Shullai, relatives of the poet, social organizations like the Khasi Students Union ( KSU), Hynniewtrep Youth Council(HYC) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People(FKJGP) paid floral tributes at the bust of U Soso Than at the premises of State Central Library here as a mark of respect to the great Khasi poet .
Speaking on the occasion ,Meghalaya Arts and Culture Minister, Sanbor Shullai lauded the poet for his contribution to Khasi literature.
FKJGP General Secretary, Daniel Cliff Kongsit said the community should follow the good examples set by the great Khasi poet who sacrificed his life for the love of his motherland and the community.
FKJGP President, Wilbert Rani said if the community does not take care of itself, it is useless to commemorate the anniversaries of its great leaders and urged them to emulate the good examples set by them.
The President of Hynniewtrep Youth Council( Central Body) Robert June Kharjahrin along with the General Secretary, Roy Kupar Synrem and members of the organization also paid floral tributes to the great Khasi poet U Soso Tham .
Speaking on the occasion, Kharjahrin said that U Soso Tham had made immense contribution in the field of Khasi literature.
Meghalaya Chief Minister , Conrad Sangma tweeted , “The literary masterpieces of this great Khasi poet laureate lives on through our education system. Today we honour his life, work and legacy “.
