Shillong ( Meghalaya), April 5 : In a significant development for State’s infrastructure, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a tender notice for the expansion of Shillong Airport. The project, estimated to cost ₹119.44 crores, aims to enhance air connectivity in the state and reduce travel time and expenses.
The expansion project includes a 571-meter extension of the existing runway, increasing the total length to 2,400 meters, and upgrades to the terminal building and apron. The project is expected to be completed soon, and will enable the operation of A-320 type aircraft in Shillong.
The expansion project is a direct result of CM Conrad K. Sangma’s efforts to improve air connectivity in the state. The project is expected to have a positive impact on Meghalaya’s economy and connectivity, and will benefit the people of the state by providing better air travel options.
