Shillong (Meghalaya), Sep 26: Meghalaya has emerged as a rising force in food processing, showcasing its local food brands and innovative livelihood solutions at World Food India 2025. The state’s food processing sector has garnered national praise, with the central government pledging support for its continued growth.
Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, praised Meghalaya’s efforts in promoting sustainability and organic products, particularly highlighting the state’s organic Lakadong turmeric, which has gained global recognition. “I am particularly proud of Meghalaya’s organic Lakadong turmeric, which has now gained global recognition,” Paswan said.
The “Meghalaya Collectives Organic” initiative was unveiled, featuring 21 food processing brands and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). The initiative aims to provide a platform for over 20 exclusive brands to access domestic and international markets. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Cooperatives of Organic Limited (NCOL) and MEGNOLIA to promote organic farming and expand the market for local non-perishable organic products.
