Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 3 : Mawkasiang and Mawkriah West have kept their semifinal hopes alive in the SSA Champions Cup 2025 with crucial victories at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo. Mawkasiang edged Umlyngka 2-1 in Group A, while Mawkriah West came from behind to defeat Mawlynrei 4-3 in Group B.
In the Group A match, Samlang Rympei scored in the 43rd minute, and Lamshai Jana added another in the 67th minute for Mawkasiang. Umlyngka’s goalkeeper Babitlang Wahlang converted a penalty in the 52nd minute. This win takes Mawkasiang to four points, and they will face table-toppers Langsning in their next match. A win would send them through to the semifinals on head-to-head.
In Group B, Enestar Malngiang struck a hat-trick (29’P, 40′, 51′) and Calbessius Pathaw added one goal for Mawkriah West. Ferdinand Pyngrope (17′) and a brace from Alem Khongwir (67′, 79′) scored for Mawlynrei. Mawkriah now have three points, but their qualification depends on Nongkseh’s result against Shillong Lajong.
The semifinal race is heating up, with several teams still in contention. Meghalaya Police, who have already qualified for the semifinals, will take on Mylliem Lum in Group A at 1 pm. The day’s marquee clash follows at 4:30 pm when Nongkseh meets Shillong Lajong, who have already secured qualification but will be keen to deny Nongkseh any advantage.
