Shillong(Meghalaya), Mar 15: In a thrilling finale, Shillong Lajong FC (SLFC) scripted a remarkable comeback to defeat Mawlai SC 2-1 in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024, lifting the title for a record fifth time.
Mawlai SC, undefeated in 17 matches, needed only a draw to claim their third consecutive title. However, SLFC had other plans. Abhay Chettri scored his first goal of the season in the 10th minute, putting Lajong in front. Samchaphrang Lato sealed the win with his third goal in as many matches, doubling the lead in the 76th minute.
The victory marked Lajong’s first win over Mawlai since their return to the SPL in 2022. The thousands of fans at the SSA Stadium witnessed an unforgettable match, as SLFC’s incredible fightback earned them the coveted title.
