Shillong(Meghalaya), Oct 31 : State Chief Minister , Conrad Sangma today held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner , East Khasi Hills and the DGP Meghalaya to take stock of of the law and order situation arising after acts of violence , assault and vandalism in the city after pressure group , Federation of Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) took out a rally on Friday .
Later talking to media persons, CM Conrad Sangma said that one person has been arrested and three FIRs have been lodged in connection with the violence. A large number of people have been identified and necessary action is going to be taken against them.
He said stern action would be taken against those involved in the violence at the rally taken out against unemployment .
It may be mentioned that on Friday the participants of a rally organised by the FKJGP against unemployment created mayhem and assulted general public , tourists , journalists while marching from Mothpran to Fire Brigade here . More than three persons were injured and some vehicles damaged as clashes broke out at the rally.
Earlier ,East Khasi Hills district administration had issued a show-cause notice to FKJGP for allegedly failing to abide by the conditions for holding the rally.
Meanwhile , East Hills DC has imposed Section 144 Cr.PC with a aim to prevent any NGOs/ group or untoward elements from blatantly misusing such rallies/processions to indulge in criminal acts thereby disrupting public order as it is learnt that other NGOs and groups are also planning similar events such as ‘surprise rallies’ within the limits of Shillong City.
The order prohibits the assembly of 5 or more people for the purpose of any rally or procession within the whole Shillong City limits, including the Shillong Urban Agglomeration area, movement of an assembly of 5 or more people in any rally or procession within the whole Shillong City limits, including the Shillong Urban Agglomeration area.
