Shillong/Tura (Meghalaya), March 16 : Governor C.H. Vijayshankar has appointed Dharmonath Sangma as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), backed by 21 MDCs. This follows the resignation of former CEM Albinush Marak amidst a no-confidence motion.
The Governor convened a special GHADC session on March 16, where Sangma was elected as the new CEM.

The appointment comes after recent violence in Garo Hills led to the postponement of GHADC elections, resulting in two deaths and several injuries. The state government had imposed curfew and deployed security forces to restore order.
