Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 31 : National Unity Day, 2022 was organized here with a series of programmes to celebrate the birth anniversary of former Home Minister of India and Iron Man, SardarVallabhbhai Patel.
A Unity Run was organized at the North Eastern Hill University. The ‘Run for Unity’ was flagged off by L. Nongkhlaw, the Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Mawkynroh, Prabha Shankar Shukla Vice-Chanceller NEHU, R. Nauklang Headman and Shri AtulNikam State Director NYKS Meghalaya.
Around 200 youths – volunteers from NYKS, NSS, local youth and employees of Department of Post participated in the run. Medals and Mementos were distributed to winners.
Nongkhlaw, in his address, elaborated on the purpose of observing the National Unity Day and how it should be celebrated every year to instill the feeling of unity among the young population of the country. He stressed on the point that NEHU being an educational hub should work towards building a congenial atmospherein the society wherein peace and harmony play important roles. He also expressed that NEHU and the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Mawkynroh should work together in building a peaceful society.
Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla said that it was indeed a proud moment for the University to host the Rangbah Shnong and the community members of MawlaiMawkynroh. He also encouraged the students of the University to work towards building a peaceful environment. He added that today’s Unity Runs are being organized across the country to take a pledge and follow the path of SardarVallabhbhai Patel. He congratulated all the winners and participants of the run.
Later in the day, Central Bureau of Communication, Regional Office, here under the
Ministry of I B, Govt. of India organized an Integrated Communication & Outreach Programme at the office Conference Hall, here .
The Chief Guest, R.K Lyngdoh, Headman, Rngijynriew Rum, Nongthymmai also the Rev. Deacon of All Saints Cathedral Shillong in his speech said that Sardar Patel is the man who laid the foundations of a modern India after Independence and devoted his life in realizing its vision.
He said, “There is unity in diversity in our country and this is the biggest strength of our country. All this has been possible only due to the efforts of Sardar Patel”.He further elaborated that the strength of acountry lies in its unity and development is possible only through peace, prosperity and unity.He concluded with a message that all citizens should take forward the noble idea national integration on the birth anniversary of this great man.
The Guest of Honour, Wadlihok Nongrum, Headman, Cleve Colony, Shillong stressed on the importance of unity, humility, respect for each other, and peace.
Dr Engam Pame, Regional Regional Director, CBC, here , in his speech said that todays program has a special significance as the country is also celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. He further added, "As we celebrate the National Unity Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel we should also give every efforts to stay united as a responsible citizen.
Present at the occasion were students, Teachers of Dinet Manik SyiemMemorial Hr. Sec. School, Nongthymmai, Shillong and invitees.
The Unity Pledge taking ceremony was administered by Regional Director, CBC, Shillong, Dr Engam Pameto the audiences present at the event.
