Dimapur (Nagaland), April 23 : The 29th Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) general conference slated to be held from April 28 to 30 at Ukhrul in Manipur, and to be hosted by Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TSK) has been cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic.
NSF general secretary, Liremo R. Kikon, through a press statement mentioned that the decision was taken at an emergency federal assembly on April 21 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, wherein it also endorsed that the executive council of the federation (2019-21) to convene the general conference on April 30 at the Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, with all precautionary measures relating to Covid-19 SoPs.
Liremo has also informed that five (5) representatives from each federating units, two (2) each from sub-ordinate bodies, two (2) each from the special invitees including Chothe Students’ Union, TaraoStudents’ Union, Inpui Students’ Union, and the Thangal Students’ Union to attend the 29th conference of the NSF.
Delegates have also been advised to strictly adhere to all Covid-19 related SOPs specified by the competent authority during the entirety of the programme.
Meanwhile, speaking to this Nagaland correspondent over phone on the sudden relocation of the venue for the proposed conference, NSF vice-president, Dievi Yano, disclosed that the government of Manipur through a notification issued by the Manipur Chief Minister, and the Health Minister, had requested the NSF not to hold the conference citing reasons that certain SOPs have to be followed during this time of surging pandemic.
He also disclosed that the NSF conference which was to be a three-day programme had to minimize to a day’s conference deciding and compelling them to host the same due to “unavoidable reasons”.
Though the dignitaries and others to grace the conference are yet to be named, Yano, however, informed this correspondent that probably former NSF leaders are expected to attend as guests and speakers.
