Tura (Meghalaya), March 16: Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member Albinush R. Marak tendered his resignation on moral grounds, hours before a scheduled no-confidence motion against him. In his resignation letter, Marak stated that he couldn’t continue in a position where the majority of members no longer trust his leadership.
Marak, representing the National People’s Party (NPP) from Siju constituency, had been facing pressure from 21 MDCs who had expressed no confidence in his leadership. He cited democratic principles, emphasizing that the confidence of the majority is essential for the Executive Committee’s functioning .
Despite stepping down, Marak reaffirmed his commitment to public service, stating he’ll continue to work for Garo Hills’ welfare and progress. The GHADC has been facing financial struggles, with staff unpaid for months, sparking controversy and allegations of misappropriation.
