Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 30: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed the state government to pay ₹50,000 each to 15 complainants for human rights violations during a police operation in Rimpu Bagan, West Garo Hills, on July 22, 2022.
The commission registered 30 cases, of which 15 were withdrawn, and after enquiry, recommended compensation for the remaining cases.
The commission’s final order, passed on Thursday, January 29, 2026, directs the Principal Secretary, Home (Police) Department, to ensure payment. This action is under Section 18 (e) of the Protection of Human Rights Act.
