Tura ( Meghalaya), March 1 : A 32 -year old man was rescued by police from a village in South Garo Hills District after he was held captive by his own relatives for more than 8 years.
On getting information , police swiftly acted on information received from a video, which has gone viral on social media, which showed a man being illegally confined in an isolated place in Pachimgre under Gasuapara police station, for more than eight years.
“On enquiry it is known that a person named Grenal B. Marak (32), S/o Henison M. Sangma was held captive by his own relatives and Maharies for his mental illness has been rescued yesterday by the Police Team of Dimapara ICP, South Garo Hills,” police said.
They said that the person has been forwarded for medical treatment to Psychiatric Ward, Baghmara Civil Hospital for further treatment and management.
The person has become mentally instable and violent are eight years on confinement.
An FIR has been lodged and legal action is being initiated against all those relatives behind his illegal confinement for more than 8 years .
