Shillong (Meghalaya), May 10 : The by-election to Sohiong assembly constituency in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district was held today , May 10 ,2023 .
Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor said that the polling was peaceful and closed at 63 polling stations at 6 pm .and the percentage of voting was 91. 87 which may further increase.
The counting of votes will take place on May 13.
The election to the seat was adjourned just before the February 27 assembly polls following the death of one of the candidates, HDR Lyngdoh of the United Democratic Party (UDP), who was also a former home minister.
The UDP has fielded late HDR Lyngdoh’s nephew, Synshar Lyngdoh Thabah, as its candidate for the Sohiong assembly election and is hoping to win the seat.
Other political parties have also set up respective candidates for the Sohiong seat.
