Tura (Meghalaya), Nov 8: In a major boost to the state’s sports infrastructure, the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura, has been making waves with its state-of-the-art facilities. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma recently inspected the ongoing construction works at the complex, which promises to take Meghalaya’s sports scene to new heights.
The complex, built at a cost of ₹127.7 crore, features a football stadium with a seating capacity of 9,500, making it the country’s largest pre-engineered composite football stadium. The stadium has already been completed and is functional, having hosted the Tura Football League and Subroto Cup since 2006.
The sports complex also includes two indoor stadiums with facilities like gymnasiums, swimming pools, table tennis halls, squash courts, and badminton courts. These facilities are designed to promote sports development in the region and provide a platform for athletes to train and compete at the national level.
The PA Sangma Sports Complex is part of the Meghalaya government’s efforts to promote sports and youth development in the state. The government has launched various initiatives, including the Sports Policy 2019, which aims to strengthen the sports ecosystem and engage the youth of Meghalaya. The government has also launched a talent identification program for athletes, which has already shown promising results, with dozens of kids identified with athletic abilities at par with or even better than international benchmarks.
The complex is expected to play a significant role in promoting sports development in Meghalaya, and its completion is eagerly awaited by sports enthusiasts in the state. With its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to promoting sports excellence, the PA Sangma Sports Complex is set to become a hub for sports development in the region.
