Shillong, (Meghalaya), June 21: A major landslide at Chainage has snapped the Shillong-Dawki road just ahead of Laitlyngkot village. The East Khasi Hills administration has closed the stretch with immediate effect, and no vehicles or public movement will be allowed beyond Laitlyngkot until further notice.
NHIDCL said repair and restoration will take a few days to complete. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal has asked commuters and tourists to avoid the route entirely and use the Shillong–Sohra–Sohbar–Dawki road or the Shillong–Jowai–Amlarem–Dawki road as alternates.
Travelers should plan for extra time, follow directions from police, traffic, and NHIDCL personnel on duty, and check IMD weather alerts before starting out. For emergencies, dial 112. The road will reopen only after restoration work is done and cleared by the District Administration.
