Shillong (Meghalaya), Sep 25: In a landmark judgment, the Court of Smti. M.K. Lyngdoh, Special Judge (POCSO) East Khasi Hills, Shillong, convicted Kaspelling Mawkon, sentencing him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 for a heinous crime under the POCSO Act. The court’s decision came after a thorough trial in Special POCSO C/No.09/2016, arising out of Sohra PS Case No. 28 (10) 2014.
The convict was found guilty of offenses punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. Additionally, he was sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment for an offense punishable under Section 506 First Part. In default of payment of the fine, the convict will undergo further imprisonment for 6 months.
The case was meticulously investigated by WPI M.M. Momin, who is presently posted in North Garo Hills District. The court’s judgment is a testament to the dedication of the investigating officer and the prosecution in ensuring justice for the victim.
The conviction and sentencing of Kaspelling Mawkon serve as a stern reminder of the consequences of violating the law and the rights of children.
