Imphal, Aug 19: Normal life remained crippled across the Imphal valley for the second day on Wednesday as the 48-hour statewide bandh demanding implementation of NRC entered its final hours.
Enforced by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation, the shutdown has been total in the valley. Bandh supporters burned tyres at several places to enforce the strike.
All vehicles stayed off roads. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, government offices and courts remained closed under the impact of the protest.
The bandh has received backing from several organisations and civil society groups.
In contrast, the hills districts reported little impact, with life continuing as usual.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government has voiced support for NRC implementation and said it has been taking up the demand with the Centre.
Sources said a delegation of MLAs, mostly from BJP, is preparing to leave for New Delhi to formally raise the issue with central leaders.
