Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 18: Four miscreants were arrested on Tuesday in connection with an extortion case, here.
East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtynger in a press statement said on August 24, a complaint was lodged at Madanrting Police Station to the effect that on August 8 an unknown male individual had contacted the complainant at around 07:00 PM demanding a sum of Rs. 10,00,000/-.

Thereafter,the unknown person contacted the complainant on several occasions insisting that the amountbe paid immediately. However, as the complainant did not comply with the demands, theunknown caller along with 2 of his accomplices criminally trespassed the house of the complainant on August 20 at around 07:00 PM, with the intent of extorting money.
As the complainant was not at home at the time, the accused persons resorted to criminally intimidating the complainant’s daughter with dire consequences.
In this regard, a criminal case has been registered at Madanrting Police Station and in the course of investigation the following persons have been arrested:
1. Garnett Gedian Khongwir, 30 yrs (Member of HNYM).
2. Kyrshanbor Lyngdoh, 38 yrs (Member of HNYM).
3. Thounaujam David Singh, 41 yrs.
4. Narendra Kabrambam, 29 yrs.
The investigation of the case is in progress to ascertain the facts and circumstances.
