Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Jan 04 : Five Omicron cases have been detected in the state on Tuesday .While four cases are from Meghalaya , one is from neighbouring Assam .
According to official sources , Saiden in Ri Bhoi reported two cases while Laitumkhrah, Langkyrding and Happy Valley reported one case each.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said an Assam tourist tested positive for Omicron variant of Covid from Langkyrding while the Laitumkhrah case is that of a medical personnel from Nazareth Hospital, here .
According to him out of the five, 4 are males and 1 is a female.
The five Omicron cases include two from Saiden, Ri-Bhoi District (both USA returnees), 1 from Happy Valley ( US – Qatar returnee) 1 from Laitumukhrah a medical professional of Nazareth hospital who had returned from New Delhi and 1 from Assam, a tourist who has already returned.
He added that the Assam resident was residing in Shillong, but by the time the RT-PCR positive report came out, the person had already left Meghalaya.
Meanwhile , the Chief Secretary, Ms .R Suchiang in an order informed that henceforth even double vaccinated persons visiting the state have to undergo the RT -PCR test from Wednesday .
