Shillong ( Meghalaya), May 11: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya felicitated 25 Bangladeshi and 5 Indian war veterans at BSF camp here who participated dauntlessly in 1971 war of Bangladesh independence and led to formation of new nation on world’s map by name of Bangladesh.
The initiative of their visit to India has been taken by Arts & Culture department under Government of Meghalaya on the occasion of joint celebration of 50th Anniversary of Bangladesh and 75th years of Indian Independence.
Speaking on behalf of the Mukti Yoddhas, veteran Haroon Habib paid homage to the heroic members of Indian Armed forces who fought for the liberation of Bangladesh and said that their contribution will remained cherished and enshrined in Bangladesh Independence history.
Inderjit Singh Rana, IG BSF Meghalaya and other BSF senior officers welcomed the group of veterans and praised their role and efforts towards liberation of Bangladesh during the 1971 war.
Earlier on Tuesday ,as part of a joint celebration of 50th Anniversary of Bangladesh Liberation War and 75th year of Independence – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a delegation of 25 Bangladesh Freedom Fighters who were involved in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation war undertook a visit to Shillong.
The delegation led by Haroon Habib was accorded a warm welcome by F R Kharkongor, Commissioner & Secretary, Arts & Culture and K L Nongbri, Joint Secretary, Arts & Culture at U Soso Tham Auditorium, here .
