Shillong ( Meghalaya) , June 1: The Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, who was on an indefinite hunger strike today broke his fast after nine days in presence of thousands of his supporters.
He broke his fast after a notification was issued that an expert committee would review the reservation policy in the state .
Chairperson of the committee on roster/reservation Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh during the day had announced the notification of the expert committee.
Basaiawmoit had vowed to continue with the indefinite fast until the state government responded positively to the party’s demand for a review of the 1972 job reservation policy.
For the past 9 days police personnel were seen standing near the Secretariat when Ardent Basaiawmoit, party MLAs and leaders were sitting on the hunger strike.
