Shillong, July 29: A fresh batch of over 100 hospitality trainees from the state has landed jobs in reputed hotels across India, marking another big win for the state’s skill development drive.
The State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), in partnership with Don Bosco Tech Society, felicitated the graduates at a Certification Day held at Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS), Shillong. The trainees, from the BIDS Centre and Mawkasiang Centre, completed Housekeeping training sponsored by MSSDS.
Many have already joined work. In an emotional moment, certificates were presented to parents in recognition of their support during the training.
Congratulating the graduates, MSSDS official, Digbijoy Sinha urged them to embrace opportunities beyond the state and assured continued collaboration with training partners and industry to expand employment avenues.
Fr. James Thyrniang, Director of BIDS, credited the Don Bosco-MSSDS partnership for creating sustainable livelihoods, while Sr. Remo Madhalene, Centre Head of Mawkasiang, told the graduates to stay resilient and committed in their new roles.
Video testimonials from alumni working in hotels across India were screened. They spoke of how the training boosted their confidence, built industry-ready skills, and helped them secure stable employment.
The placement figures stood out. The BIDS Centre placed 46 out of 50 candidates from two batches. The Mawkasiang Centre recorded 67 placements from five batches. Most graduates are now earning between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000 per month.
Don Bosco Tech Society in the state has trained more than 25,000 youth so far, maintaining an average placement rate of 60–70 percent. Officials said the latest results reflect the growing impact of skilling programs in turning local talent into a workforce ready for the national hospitality industry.
