Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 19: The state is all set to elevate its tourism game with the inauguration of the Taj Umiam Resort & Spa, a ₹330 crore luxury haven nestled beside the breathtaking Umiam Lake. This iconic project is poised to transform the region into a premier tourism hotspot, attracting global travelers and bolstering local economies.
The brainchild of visionary leaders, this resort is part of a larger ₹3,914.51 crore tourism infrastructure push, promising to create thousands of jobs and stimulate economic growth. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the project’s significance, saying, “This is just the beginning. Tourism will continue to be a key growth engine that benefits every citizen of Meghalaya”.
With its strategic location, just 17 km from Shillong and 14 km from Umroi Airport, Umiam is emerging as a high-end, eco-friendly tourism hub. The resort will be Meghalaya’s fourth five-star property, cementing the state’s position as a premium destination.
