Shillong (Meghalaya), Sep 12: Dr. Donwa Dethwelson Lapang, popularly known as DD Lapang, a stalwart of Meghalaya politics and four-time former Chief Minister of the state, breathed his last today, Sep 12, 2025, at Bethany Hospital here. He was 96.
Lapang, who represented the Nongpoh constituency, had a long and distinguished career in politics, serving the state in various capacities. His tenure as Chief Minister, spanning multiple terms from 1992 to 2010, was marked by significant efforts towards the development and progress of Meghalaya.
Known for his humility, gentleness, and fairness, Lapang’s legacy continues to inspire many in the state. His passing has left a void in Meghalaya’s political landscape, and he will be remembered for his dedication to public service and his commitment to the welfare of the people.
The mortal remains of DD Lapang will be kept at his residence at Lachaumiere, where condolence visits are expected. The state will bid farewell to a leader who left an indelible mark on its history.
